Easiest Table of Contents (TOC) in Microsoft Word

The easiest method of creating an automatically generated table of contents (TOC) uses styles in your document.

By default the TOC is based on Heading 1, Heading 2, and Heading 3 styles. If you used other styles in your document, you can Modify the TOC to refer to those instead.

You can delete the 1, 2, 3 out of the TOC level for those Headings, and type them into the TOC level boxes for the styles you are using and want to include.
